October 2005

The Sunshine isn’t quite as bright nor is the grass as green,

The coolness of the autumn morn slows up the little stream.

Though flowers once bright must whither now—no longer bright and gay,

The autumn is a treasured time in quite a different way.

The leaves are turning from the green to colors rich and grand,

And autumn in a million shades is dressing all our land.

There’s something in October hours that nothing can surpass,

And living seems to start anew as spring and summer pass.

Dear Parent,

As we begin our third month of school let us recognize that we have entered into a unique partnership.  With you we share an important goal-to provide for your children an education devoted to academic excellence and committed to Catholic values and ideals.

We recognize the sacrifices you have made to send your child to Holy Family School.  You have shown your determination to give your child more than a purely secular, relativistic outlook on learning and life.  You have chosen a faith-based education in an atmosphere warmed by the powerful presence of our loving God.  We remember all of our families in our daily prayers as we look toward a year of growth and opportunity for our students.

Office Notes:

Please make every attempt to have your child arrive at school on time.  Students, who arrive at 7:50 am or shortly before, are often behind in getting organized for the entire day.

On time tuition payment is critical to our cash flow.  Please remember that the next tuition payment is due on October 1st and is late on October 5th.  Payments may be mailed or dropped off at the Religious Education Center during normal business hours.

I am extending the last day for the Warm Weather Uniform until November 30th for those students who are more comfortable in shorts.  The skorts worn by many young girls may be worn throughout the school year.

NEWSFLASH

HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL WORKS FOR A CLEANER ENVIRONMENT!

Our school’s third annual aluminum can drive is off to a great start!  With a scale donated by Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin, the cans are weighed and taken to the recycling center by Sr. Joan and Mrs. Parker.  Thus far, this year we have recycled 510 lbs. and received $334.27.  Thank you for your continued support!  Keep the cans coming!!!

FALL FEST is around the corner!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 22nd from 10:00-3:00pm.  If you would like to help and have not yet been contacted, please call the school office, 539-5221.  This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and build community.

 Substitutes Needed

Our school is now accepting applications for Substitute Teachers.  For more information, please contact Mrs. Tomaine at the school office, 539-5221.

 Student Led-Conferences

Student Led-Conferences will be held on October 6-7th.  At Holy Family School, each student is responsible for his/her own learning.  Therefore, it is expected that each student be present and lead the conference.  Report Cards will be distributed at that time.

GRANTS AWARDED

Congratulations to Mrs. Betty Snow who was awarded funding of $348 for a seed grant   on Aquifers and our Environment.  The project will be completed in Grade 6 during environmental studies.

Ms. Lila Bates received a $1,000 te@ch Award from Best Buy to purchase a Digital Camera, Scanner and CD Rewriter.  This hardware will not only be used in the Computer Lab but also in preparing the Yearbook.

Thank you to both teachers for their efforts over and above classroom work.
